It's been awhile since I posted to "Life is a Beach." Since returning from Panama to Bermuda it's been life as usual on this small rock in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Lori traveled home to visit her parents and refresh her memory of what B.C. winters are like. I continue to supervise the operation of Tynes Bay Incinerator. Our winter this year has been very mild. We even had a drought where everyone's water tanks dried up! This posting will be mainly of Lori's imagery (and my commentary) of our continued occupation of this beautiful island.
The image above is a common theme throughout these postings... looking South over the Atlantic from the beach at Cross Bay across the road from our home. I like to think of it as the tip of the Bermuda Triangle looking down on the Caribbean Islands.
Lori's and my favorite pastime is, of course, photography! When we load up the equipment and go searching for a subject we invariably end up at a beach. So true to the theme of "Life is a Beach" here are more images of pink sand and clear turquoise waters. The shadow in the image at left is actually of me taking the picture. A huge no-no in photography ... so Lori tells me.

After her massage, Lori luxuriates in the hot tub at the Southampton Princess

Part of the package when becoming a member of the Princess Golf Club was a two night stay at the hotel. So for two nights and days we pampered ourselves with wine, massages, good food and of course ... golf!

The picture at right was taken from the same balcony at sunset. The Gibbs Lighthouse is prominent. (You'll see a better picture of this at the end of this posting). I would like to remind you that some of these images are worth clicking on to see in full screen format.

Visitors!

In February my little brother and his wife paid us a visit. They lucked out in that the weather was very fine. We toured the island and saw all the sights. Even played poker and went swimming!

Scott and Linda own and run a tourist trap in the Yukon called Nugget City. The only time they get abroad is in the winter. (Click on Scott's picture to see them together)

Pictured at left is our good doctor Michael Sigler and his wife Jackie who paid us a visit from Panama City. They enjoyed Bermuda as it was actually an escape from the heat!

At right is an image of Bill Duncan taking a picture of Lori. We met Bill and Betsy when they were visiting Bermuda and staying at the Reefs.

Bill ... under a "sun dog"?

Not to be left out of all these beach pictures, Lori and I find someone who can actually focus her camera. Where is her hand? We've both been on a health kick since coming back from Panama, and I'm showing off ... (Mouse over the image)

At left is a shot of our pal Bria on the back deck that Lori calls;

"Preparing for take-off"

I can't post all these images of Spring in Bermuda without including our favorite back yard pastime. This image of the Southampton Princess Golf Course is from the second tee looking across to the longest hole ... the 14th in the distance. The timing is sunset at which time we can walk on for free being members. The colors are also the most vivid at this time of day and Lori always drags along her camera which weighs about 12 pounds. Guess who gets to carry the camera?
Lori finds a subject for her camera!

The Jamaican Anole,a Caribbean species of lizard now naturalized and common here introduced in 1905. This little guy changes color rapidly from blackish brown to green and blue and sticks out his colorful chest to show his ferocity.

On safari~ our intrepid photographer in search of rare species ...in the jungles of the Amazon? No ... in our back yard!

Did I warn you that this posting was going to be a hodgepodge of various pictures taken all over the island? These are only a few of very many that I found hidden within folders identified with obscure numbers on Lori's computer. These were all taken within the last four months here in Bermuda.

At left is yet another image of the famous (at least in Bermuda) Somerset Bridge and is billed as the smallest drawbridge in the world. To allow a masted boat to pass through, the planks are lifted out of the center.

At right is a view towards Front Street and the British Flag in the main town of Hamilton.

Bermuda is full of churches, some dating back to the 1600s. Surrounding many of these houses of worship are graveyards. Here you see two images slightly enhanced in Photoshop by Lori. They, of course, look much more impressive seen in larger format ..."click"!
Red sky at night, sailors delight... tell this to all the sailors who's names are on these tombstones who died of drowning. They couldn't swim!
In the picture below you see me lounging about daydreaming on a park bench. If you watch the image long enough you'll see my dreams answered!
Having fun with the camera timer and some computer "Flash", Lori and I goof around. One of the burdens of being the partner of a photographer is that one is subjected to "posing". Lots of fun!
Tynes Bay Incinerator Control Room

Above is an image of the Control Room at Tynes Bay Waste Treatment Facility. Regardless of what readers of "Life is a Beach" might think, this is where I spend the majority of my time in Bermuda.

At left is a photo of our friends Chuncy and Robin on their wedding day. Lori had the privilege of doing some of their photography. A great looking couple!

So in an effort not to inundate you with too much imagery of our beautiful Island, I'll leave you with a final picture that Lori and I took one slightly inebriated evening about midnight involving a timed shot with a tripod of the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. The tripod was set up in the field right below our apartment. I hope you enjoyed these new images of Bermuda and we'll be sure to post again soon to .... Life is a Beach!
