Propane Fuel Leak
(from Emergency Preparedness Guidelines Manual) In the event of a propane fuel leak, the Chief Steam Engineer (or designate) shall be responsible for attempting to control and/or contain the leak. Main Propane Storage Tank The main propane storage tank is located adjacent to the mill water pumphouse, close to the railway crossing.(See map) In the event of fire, the major concern is the possibility of BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion), whereby the fire heats the tank, causing the contents of the tank to boil and expand. This expansion, in turn, causes the pressure relieve valve to activate, usually when the boiling liquid empties, the metal fatigues and finally the rupture occurs. To help prevent this condition the First Responders will set up the ground monitor spraying water on the storage tank. All personnel including neighboring business must evacuate. |
